Reading & Technology EXPO

Riverbend Teachers and Staff want to say a big thank you to all the parents and students that came out to our Reading & Technology EXPO last Thursday night Oct. 22nd.  It was a HUGE success!!

There was a great turn out from parents, grandparents, students, and their siblings. Parents left with new tools, resources, and apps to enhance their child’s reading life at home – plus a full belly of yummy pizza!  Each teacher picked a reading topic/strategy, app, or website that they presented at their EXPO table set up in the gym.  Parents and students walked around and visited different tables to discuss and learn how each resource/tool worked.  Most resources had a technology component that teachers shared using the iPads or Chromebooks at their table.  Parents and students were encouraged to “play around and learn” the new resource while they visited that table.  Teachers handed out information sheets for their topic and prizes to the students that visited their table. Once the student had visited 12 of the 18 EXPO tables they received a free book of their choosing in the lobby from over 200 high interest books.  Many parents expressed how interesting and enjoyable the evening had been learning about all the different tools available for Reading.  The students enjoyed showing off their technology skills with the different tools and devices.
