Mrs. Leatherwood’s 2nd Grade class has learned a very valuable lesson this holiday season. “It is better to give than to receive.” Instead of exchanging gifts in their classroom with each other, this year they decided to donate that money to a needy organization. In the month of Dec., students in her class collected and donated $150.00 to Haywood County’s SARGE’s Animal Rescue Foundation. Students were excited about this unique opportunity to think of others before themselves (especially the four-legged kind). Mrs. Leatherwood remarked, “my students are learning that is good thing to give back to the community.” She was able to hand deliver the check to SARGE’s over the holiday break and get to see first hand their overwhelming gratitude for this generous gift. Below is a picture of her students holding the check they presented to SARGE.
