Exciting Young Scientist
Since school started, our Kindergarten and 1st Grade students have witnessed first hand the magic of metamorphosis or life cycles. Over the summer a crop of milkweed began to grow in the flower garden outside the Kindergarten classrooms on the front of the building. A favorite plant for Monarch Butterflies. Teachers noticed that there were lots of insects and eggs all over the plant. Over the last couple of weeks, students have been able to observe all the stages of the butterfly life cycle: egg, larva (caterpillar), pupa (chrysalis), and then butterfly. Students have been documenting the changes and learning all about the Monarch butterflies. Numerous butterflies have emerged from their pupa over the last weeks providing a lot of excitement of our young scientist! Below are some pictures of the metamorphosis.
